Should I hire a photographer too?

My finacee's friend is doing our videograpghy for our wedding for free (he does it for a living, and I've seen some of his work). Besides the DVD I want regular album so our families can have an album, and we can have one. My FI knows how to make stills from a wedding DVD and he doesn't want to put in any more money for the wedding. I don't know if it would be worth the extra stress of having him to do it just to save a few dollars, or hire a photographer. I have a proffessional who can probaly the ceremony and reception for $500 including the album. My mom said she would be wiling to help with the extra cost.

This is what I did for our reception. We put one use cameras at each table setting with a cute note that said....something to the effect don't take pictures of us and the cake take pictures of you and your friends. As a result we have some really nice pictures.

I would say if you have someone willing to pay for it, do it.

Personally, I would go and hire a photographer. The day goes by so fast and having quality pictures is important to me. You are not just paying for someone to take pictures, but also for someone to document your day professionally. I know my cousin didn't hire a photographer and ended up regretting it because there were so many things missed.

I would hire a photographer. This is the only way you'll get stills with everyone posed, and smiling at the same time. In my book, it would completely be worth it.

You should research how many usable stills your fiance is likely to be able to get from the video.

***EDIT***
Also, a videographer can't move around as quickly and easily as a photographer. If you only have the video, it will more than likely be from one angle, or standpointe. Whereas the photos would be from various angles.

$500 is a really good deal for a photographer and album. Maybe explain to your FI that it would be nice to have some posed pictures done by a professional photographer. It seems strange to have a videographer film the posed pictures (you and the groom's family, you and your family, etc.).

I definitely think you should hire a photographer. The pictures are something you will have displayed for the rest of your lives. If you have someone willing to help with the cost, the better it will be explaining to your fiance that a photographer is a great idea.

Get the photographer you will want one! The memories are not worth wasting.

Do it, get a photographer even if you have to pay for it. There is no way a videographer will get the shots a photographer will get.

If your mom is willing to help foot the bill; then go for it...

i say go for it.
esp if she's helping with the cost.
i think it's special to have the memories in print of the pictures you posed for as well as the candids the photographer will take
remember you can get the cd of the pics so you can print as many and of what sizes you want too for family to share

Go with the Professional Photographer and tell your finacee he can do stills afterward. This keeps everyone happy and you get a professional job.

I would definitely hire the photographer. You're going to want some actual photo's. Who knows if the still images would actually turn out, but by that point it would be too late. I would rather be safe than sorry if I were you.
And $500 is not bad at all. I paid $2500 for my photography.

Absolutly, dont you want to show your children photos of your wedding. I dont even turn on my wedding DVD, everyday in the moring i glance at our photos, they are all over the house, DO IT!

Try www.proweddingshots.com we used them before and their price was very affordable they were very professional and the pictures turn out great,. I'm not sure about what the prices are now.

Yes. The photos from the dvd won't be of good quality.
But you may not have to hire a professional - think of someone in your family or a close friend who has a 35mm camera... and it's good enough.
