Would I be a decent Equine photographer? |
Hey! I love taking pics of horses, and was thinking about maybe doing it as a side job when I'm older (I mainly want to be an equine vet...), so I was wondering if you could give me some opinions on if you think I might have a shot... I guess you have to click "answer this question" to see the links...I dunno, this has been happening on my pc lately... I love them! Very nice, and you have a great camera, I might add. The only thing I didn't like were a couple of the show pics, as they weren't quite in frame. I like how you kept the subjects in some of the other photos a little out of frame and not smack dab in the middle...it makes the photos much more interesting. The Connemara especially is GORGEOUS - are you in Ireland? Thats really weird about the links, glad you said to click on the answer button. shoot i can't view them. it's blocked bcse i'm at work and some sites get flagged by our firewall. yea u r. Wow!! I think your photos are really very good. You say feel free to criticize but you have done such a good job that I can't. Do please become an equine photographer. If your passion matches your talent then you will be rich. My favorite is "watching herd from hilltop". your eye for catching a horse in its natural state is amazing, i'm jealous. i really love your photos,i looked through most of the ones u can view on the side and there really gud,i espessicially luv the one with the two little foals walking together in the really green meadow its so cute! Pretty good pics there - I wish I had the patience to do that - I just go for a quick snap ! I think that anyone that enjoys taking photos as much as you do and sees a photo in every situation, has a shot at being a photographer. I mean that in a good way, not everyone can and does do that. The technical part can be learned, if you have the desire. By technical, I mean, timing, filters, focus, etc. There are also rules by which photographers follow, depending on what they are shooting. By that, I mean, rules that apply to shooting people, babies, dogs...take horses, for example..you first decide on what aspect you are trying to capture...is it speed, intensity, are you trying to take the photo to be flattering to the rider or the horse or both...which in itself is a challenge whenever you add another dimension to your shot. For example, with horses: On an action shot with a horse on the ground in a show, say a pleasure class, you would always want to choose your timing when the horse's near front foot is all the way on the ground because it is more flattering to the horse...but, on the other hand, if you were trying to show action with a horse running free, you might not want to flatter the horse as much but show the movement. All of those things you just learn, not only formally and through experience but even by being an apprentice. My husband has thousands of photos of people and animals that neither of us even know, but are wonderful photos. Even a baby crying can be a good photo, it all depends on what you are trying to capture. If you can look at a photo and see and or feel the reason that it was taken, then I think that it's a good photo. Again, I think that if you have a passion for capturing moments and the ability to see those "moments" everywhere and all of the time, you can learn the rest. The pics are ok. the first one's the best. Keep at it. your pc isnt the only one doing it, my mac is doing it to. bla. ok lemme have a look... Very good! The last one is beautiful. I think you would make a good equine photographer. The only thing I would say is in the 5th picture, I would move the brooms and stuff, just make sure there is nothing there that wouldn't contribute to the picture, its a little distracting. The last pic was the best but some were boring and plain, try to add spice and catch your horse in a cool postion when their running, bucking. or rearing. Yes! I think these are great! Especially the ones with the white horse. On the jumping ones, try to get in a little closer and get a brighter view, they were kinda hard to see. Nice!!!! Hey, your going for the same as me! An equine vet with a sidejob as a photographer! (mostly in horses!)! Very nice photos but average only. You will need better quality equipment and to work on framing and composition. The subjects were too far way in some shots - telephoto or getting closer to the action will improve that. Take some photography classes and start entering your photos in photo competitions where you can get some good quality criticism from people who really know photography, I know horses and what I like in a photo but I am not a photographer. Hi, Thank you for sharing your photos! I like the way you compose shots when there are other elements in the pic (like the red barn). I also really liked the shot of mare and foal, where you really zoomed in to fill the entire frame with horse. The scenic shots are a bit flat. Perhaps practicing with a center spot filter will give you some depth and "romance". They are about $35 usd. they allow only the very center of the image to be sharp, and it blurs the edges...making it more romantic. Do you have photo shop? The white horse would make a nice unicorn:) Did you take the jump shots? if so...the timing is spot on!!! good job! the angle from which you shot is also very good...although since you have alot of "empty frame" to fill I would suggest getting a zoom lense (3.5 -5.2 f ) should be fast enough. The really fast ones 2.4 are probitivley expensive. the slower lense can be bought for about $150 usd and is well worth the investment, even if you decide to continue on as a hobby. some of the photographers in the us that are really well known, that you can look up on the computer are susan sexton, teri miller, for sport horses, and tony leanard is the king of TB portraiture. also, if you want more specific critqueing of your work (not the subject) you can go to www.ritzcamera.com like them they are so cool. i could not get all those like that. the is so cool!! so so cool Yes they are great photos! I find it hard to take good jumping pics- well done. Yeah,....I'm sure yo'll be. I liked some of your photo's others really needed to be closer. Either use a zoom lens, get closer or crop the imagine but only if you use a high enough film that the imagine is not grain if blown up. Are you using digital or film? I would suggest listing the camera, lens film etc for each of them too makes it easier to judge you could try the web site www.photo.net it is great and you got lots of feedback Yes, I think you'd make a great equine photographer. You take excellent picturs. I love the first one. Those are amazing. I love the background in a lot of them and the way you captured the mare and foal is terrific! I'm trying to get some good equine photos in too, but I'm waiting till summer so I'll have more time and somewhat better lighting. |
