Picture Question....?

Does anyone know how, or where I can find out how to edit my pics.. I have Kodax Easy share and I know all about editing, except... can anyone tell me how I can take a face off of one picture and paste it onto another and have it look natural... I want to move my hubby face off of one of our pics and put it onto one with myself and our son... It is kinda complicated, but we cannot get our son to cooperate and take a family pic no matter what we do... And just by chance I was able to get him to take one with me today... and I know he won't do it again... He loves being in pics by himself, but for some reason he has always hated "sharing the spotlight" ... I have tried everything and nothing has worked... EVERYTHING... And I am an aspiring photographer... ( and I am REALLY Good at it) so I have even tried setting the stage at home but that didn't work either.. So taking a family pic is out of the ??? and that is why I need to know how to work these pics.... Thanks!!!

I am not an expert at this so if you hear different from an expert please go with their advice. Having said that, here goes nothing.

If I was going to do what you propose I would go at it as follows:

I would digitize both photos with as high a pixel count as possible. Then using a fairly high end paint program I would cut your husband's face out of the one photo. Now magnify and clean all the background color from around his face. You will want the background transparent. After you have accomplished that you need to resize his face so that it doesn't look out of scale. Now a simple paste to the photo of you and your son and you are done with the mechanics. The art portion is more subjective.

You may have to adjust the contrast or focus on his face; after all you don't want it to look like a composite. Lighting direction and the resultant shadows will give it away. If he is harsh lighted from the left and you and son are soft lighted from the right it will look weird. Be prepared to do some air brushing to correct things like that.

A final piece of advice, save your work frequently. Nothing is quite as exasperating as working an hour, making a mistake that you can't fix and having to start all over again.

Good Luck. I think if you have a basic understanding of the software you should be able to do this job in a couple of hours. All my expertise is in cleaning up drawings for technical material. I was able to complete about 3 a day when I was doing it full time...That count is dependant on complexity of the work. Yours, in my opinion, is complex but it isn't large so I will stick with my couple of hours estimate.
I do not know a thing about the program Kodak Easy Share. If you have a friend that has Adobe Photoshop or Photoshop Elements it can be done in those programs.

Using the magnetic lasso tool, one can trace around any part of the photo that they want to copy or delete. If you want to move something from one photo to another. Open the file you want to remove from and use the lasso tool to outline the image. Then copy and paste.

After you have done that open the image that you want to move it to and use the move tool to drag and drop in the new image.

Once in the image you can continue to use the move tool to place it where you want it.

Other tools can be used to touch up the image once you have it in place.

Good luck with your attempt.

kodak is similar to hp photo share album in that it doesn't do ask you say copy and pasting, you will need other software like gimp or photobie,

select part of image from one, copy, and paste in second image in new layer, then move in place edit edges and contrast, and save copy as jpg,
..
Sounds like a job for Photoshop. With Photoshop you can take him out of a single picture and paste him into a picture with you and your husband. Very little editing is necessary if you do a clean outline then outline an area in the picture and paste him into it. When I say paste him in I mean you could outline your body and slide him in slightly behind you like he was there smiling for the Photographer. This program is incredible...you can do almost anything with it...............
Ah, what you want to know is how to manipulate images. Editing is the process where a photographer or editor looks through all the images of a shoot and throw out the ones which are basically missed shots. The take the rest and look at them and sort them according to criteria set up before the shoot. They usually end up with ten to twenty "keepers" and the rest are put in a file as edit1 or something like that. The others are arranged in a way to best show them off and then presented to the client.

Manipulation is using one or more images to make a totally different image. It is critical that the lighting is the same in each photo used when you make the composite, other wise it will look like there were two or more suns in the image. There are tutorials available on the Internet which will walk you through each step in creating a composit image.
As others have stated, photoshop can do the trick. Doing what you're proposing and doing it well is easier said than done. Sure, all you're essentially doing is cutting your husband out of one picture and pasting him into another, but if you don't want it to look like that's what you did, there's a lot more work involved.

You have to make sure that the lighting, focal length, positioning, shadows, etc. match on both images so it looks natural. Making a good selection and pasting it in properly also takes a fair amount of work.
