When photographing families At their home do photographers have to bring their own backdrops and props?

well that really wouldn't make too much sense. If the photo shoot isn't at the families house but is meant to be then yes, both parties do

If you take a look at Bill Brandt's portraits the inclusion of a sitter's environment is essential to the expression of who a person really is.Compare these with Bailey's fashion shots and his more intimate portaits.I hope if you can see these that it will help you to understand the nature of our form of expression.

I have had clients ask for their pictures either way. Communication is essential with your customer. Just ask.

If you are shooting at their own home, then their own home is the backdrop and their stuff is the props. Using backdrops and props that don't belong there makes for a phony photo.

Whenever we photograph families at their homes or on
location, the only thing we might bring are stools or barrels
for them to sit on so that you can get a nice composition.
There are usually quite a few spots you can use at their home,
either inside or outside that look natural without bringing
backgrounds with you. Hope this helps.

Sometimes the photographer will bring those things to your home - depending on what you want your photo to be like. We've had it done both ways.

That all depends on whether or not the photographer feels like hauling their backdrops to the house. If the family just wanted to use backdrops I see no reason why they wouldn't just go to the photographer's studio. Usually, if a family wants to shoot at their home, they already have an idea of what they want in their pictures. Especially scenery and backgrounds.
