Famous Photographers: People?

For my photography project im looking for a bit of inspiration, i.e a famous photographer whos work i can emulate. I need to do pictures of people, but i dont want to have to do simple portrait shots. Can anyone help?
Thank you =)

Diane Arbus shot unusual people. Look her up on Google images.

Anton Corbijn - famous for photographing celebs and musicians in a gritty way..

Check out this website. I don't think the links on it work, but there are some good descriptions and then you can just do a search for the names.

One of my favorite photographers is Annie Leibovitz. She is amazing...her photography captures raw pictures of people in their true beauty. Her photographs evoke so much emotion and they are absolutely beautiful. Her range of photography is awesome too...from poverty, to the daily life, to high fashion, to celebrities....check her stuff out, it's sweet. Here's one link...but just Google her name and you'll find more!!!

three photographers come to mind for three different reasons.

Annie Leibovitz, as a previous answerer noted. not only does she have an amazing way of looking at people she spawned a whole hoarde of immitators. like most art we sometimes forget the originators. Annie is a master of her art.

Yousuff Karsh. when we think of Hemmingway we often visualize Karsh's portrait of him. Karsh produced icons. he was a master printmaker as well as a picture taker.

Roloff Beny was another great printmaker who went one step beyond creating images. He designed books. I think of him as the creator of the table top book.

all three of the above have left an influence that, to me, shows the spirit of creativity.

David Bailey is undoubtedly the most famous photographer of our time. I've also always rather liked Jeff Wall's work.. I also am a fan of Mark Power.. He's fairly local to where I live but he's really wonderful, a member of Magnum and all.. I also like Solve Sundsbo, Warren Du Preez and Nick Thornton Jones.. So yeah there's a few for you.. For focusing on people, well, I'd say Jeff Wall, but the last three I mentioned are fashion photographers so there are usually people in their shoots ;]

im doing a prject on people at the moment too
here are some of my favourites:

dianne arbus- for the so called 'freaks' of society
david moore- for great portraiture and emotion
dorothea lange- old photos of poverty etc
eugene atget- only a few portraits but they are great
bill henson- great use of tone and aesthetic quatlities
anne zahalka- great use of colour and heaps of underlying messages

hope that helps!

and and another one i nearly forgot is august sander
