If you want to be a famous photographer you have to take some photos that are going to get you the headlines...and then you're going to have to take more of the same caliber. Check out the link I am posting below for some examples.

While a lot of these photos may not be the best by professional photographer standards, they are very well known because we have all seen them. And that is what being famous is all about.

So get your educations in photography and then pic your angle to pursue this dream of making it big. Small wedding event photos aren't going to get you there. War photos very well might, but it's not like it isn't dangerous. There are all kinds of possibilities.

fame ain't all it's cracked up to be kid, believe me... the money, though.... now there's a different issue. i'll take the money over the fame any day.
some of the best and best paid photographers aren't well known outside of photographer/artis circles, that is just the nature of the beast kid... britany is famous and it's killing the poor child.
the guy that took that cover shot on n.g. in 85 of that afgani girl is fairly well off, but do you know who he is? and further he's o.k. with himself.

We all have things we want... if you really want this then you need to work extra hard for it. Photography is a very competitive field. My advice, start small... take baby steps to get there. Go to photography school, learn everything you can about photography, come up with something new, shoot really awesome pictures, get them noticed. Most importantly, you need to PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!

Since you don't have a clue now, it will not happen for you.

1. Take good photos - not necessarily great, but competent photos. Learn the basics.
2. Take lots of them in lots of places - being in the right place at the right time helps. Can't get shots of the fighter jet pulling up to refuel in the sky if you aren't inside the plane, or movie stars if you're in Podunk USA.
3. Put them out there for people to see. Your website, submissions, etc.
4. Make influential friends. Get them to introduce you to the right people. Make friends with them. Repeat.
5. Be very lucky. Oh, sure, some of that luck is hard work and persistence - but being the only one of several dozen photographers to get the single best shot of Reagan getting shot, for example, had an element of luck to it.

I hate to burst bubbles, but it's really hard to be famous in photography these days. The reason is because EVERYONE is a photographer nowadays. The average person now has access to expensive equipment only professionals once had many years ago. I mean, I can create magazine quality images in my own home with an SLR digital camera and some fancy lights. If I can offer some reasonable advice for you, either keep it a hobby or find something REALLY unique which no one has ever done before in photography, and market yourself well. Good luck with that.
