Why did the American government allow the media to have access to what was going on during Vietnam war?

Eg. they allowed photographers for popular newspapers go wherever soldiers went.. Thus, we were able to see many of the famous photos that worked against the government, like that girl running naked away from her villiage.

So why did they allow them to go into Vietnam when this could have happened?

Our government at the time of Vietnam foolishly believed in the first amendment to the constitution . Unlike today when trying to cover the war on your own can get you arrested and your paper or TV station in big trouble .

it is called freedom of the press and it is covered under the
consitutition so there would be no legal grounds to stop them from going for or against the government

They did not THINK it was going to happen. the news footage of the Vietnamese being shot in the head started the ball rolling.

Not like the government wasn;t doing wwhat it could to suppress things. When Morely Safer was over there, reporting, they tried to hav him deported (He's canadian)

The naked girl image you refer to was just napalmed and her clothes were incenerated to her body. That photo & the photo of the north Viet. shooting the south Vietnam in the head are credited with turning the tide of public support against the war.
