Fashion Magazine Job Help?

I want to work for a fashion magazine like Vogue or InStyle as a Photographer/Journalist. What do I do in collage and how do I begin. I know that I have to start small.

Well, first of all you need to begin by article writing. Start with your school mag, submit stuff to magazines, and basically look willing. English Language & Literature at A-Level will help you immensely.

Secondly, doing an art foundation course will really open up your mind. It's only a year at college and it's brilliant. it's basically the gateway to any creative degree. Also, an evening photography course will help you immensely, to help you get the most out of your photos.

Look into the fashion course at Salford Uni - they used to do this Fashion Styling section which I lusted over so many times (I eventually did visual arts), and I reckon you will love it. Otherwise, a journalism degree at somewhere like the Uni of Central Lancashire, but it's very fact-based and you will do better to do something more creative.

Also, take photos and keep a fashion photojournal. This will demonstrate both your writing and snapping skills. At any level you will be expected to present a portfolio!

Also, be persistent and determined and learn to accept rejection and criticism, as you'll be up against both.

I asked the same question last week to a media teacher.

It would help you a lot to study English Language and Literature at A Level, having good grades in both GCSE and A Level. Then going to do a degree in English or even in History. Then doing a post-graduate course in Magazine Journalism or photography. Most people start small and work there way up to the top at magazines and newspapers.
