Photography: What to ask models on your first photo session?

Just got into photography and I'd like to know some interview questions before starting a photo shoot with the fashion model.

Well, you want to make sure your both on the same page as to expectations, ie., themes, length of shoot, who provides makeup, hair stylist, and clothing, usage of photos.

Also, your rules for studio shoots. Mine are no boyfriends/hubbys allowed, period. Chaperones are fine, but not within view of the shoot as its going on.

Go over the agreements and releases with the model.

Edit:::: Hey lefty, have you ever shot a new wanna be model, told her to bring 3-4 clothing changes, and she brings 4 different sets of jeans and light blouse. OR, emptys her closet and dresser into garbage bags, so you can choose for wardrobe for her??

"Don't talk with your mouth full"
???

I don't think I have ever interviewed a model, except to decide on a time to shoot and their comments on my work and mine on theirs.

We meet, we shoot ... done.

Some bring a couple of changes of clothing and their make up as well as some music they like

Ask them if they're ugly!

Why question if it is a photo-shoot? The fashion model already knows her body and her looks better than you and will always present her good side.
Here are some questions.

Hi, my name is so and so... Then invent some story about your photo shoot the day before and how it turned out.
Never tell them it is your first or they might sweat and leave.

Really, just go with the flow. SHe will ask the question on what you want from her.

Now I know what happened to Leftie's "rightie"....
some clever girl cut it off !!

ask them, what got you started into modeling?

what side is their good side, where the light hits them in the right/wrong places, what's their motivation

First off. When meeting with a large negro man, it is important that you maintain eye contact. However, getting in his face is paticularly effective when trying to negotiate. It is important to carry a toolbelt, which should include

a glock
a shank
cocaine (in order to gain leverage)
bucket of fried chicken (ditto)

Good luck.

where is your agent.

then ask the agent questions.

Theres no real need to interview, her face and body is why you want to photograph her, as long as she is willing to do and wear what you want and you agree a fee etc.

Tell her its your first shoot, every model is different some will want to jump straight into the shoot, others will want a cup of tea and a chat first,. But remember if you are paying her its your time so don't waste it!

The important thing is to keep talking throughout the shoot, if you are happy for her to pose herself tell her, keep talking and the shoot will go well, if there's silence she will start to get nervous.

If you are shooting in a studio ask the owner to help with the lighting and remember to have fun!
