MODELLING PICTURES- IS IT WORTH IT? please read! :(?

Hello, my friend and I want to get pictures taken of us and then send them off to modelling agencies, etc.
I called the photography place in town and they gave me a price list, but i'm still debating is it worth it for that price?

Claude J Gagnon.

for fashion portfolio pictures
-1 hour
-as many outfits as you want
150 $ for the session and then you pay for the photos that you want
if you call and pay in advance you get 50% off photos to buy

and then-

for normal casual pictures
-30min
-as many outfit (2 max)
75$ for the session and then you pay for photos that you want
if you call and pay in in advance you get 50% off photos you buy

do you think its reasonable? Which one would you take? Any suggestions while taking the photo shoot? I'd be nice for ideas;so if you have any pictures that we could view we would like that! LET ME KNOW! : ) Thanks!

I'll tell you straight up: yes it's worth it. Only a professional photographer can give you quality images that will impress the modelling agencies. But be wary of bad pro photographers. I have seen some who charge the earth but produce the most boring shots. Have a look at their port folio before you use their services.

If you can find an artist looking for models, they will do it for you. They even might pay you

Or get a digital camera and a blank wall and try for yourself

If your looking for portfolio developement, you can find good experienced photographers at modelmayhem.com, or onemodelplace.com, and work TFP/cd. Basic trade your time, for the photogs time, and share the photos for portfolio usage. Just do a search of your local area for photogs.

This will give you a chance to see what it is like in front of the camera, before you start shelling out $$'s. See what kind of lighting is good for you, to get started. Some practice ahead of time on poses, and expressions, will be a benefit to you.

Have you seen the photographers work?? I would be hesitant to pay someone I dont know "in advance". The prices are reasonable, if you get quality from him. If you dont get quality, any amount of $$'s paid is a waste.

What else do you get?? What else does the photog get?

You know that the photog keeps copyright of all photos, and that he may use them as he likes, unless you come to another agreement with him.

Is he providing you digital files, for an online portfolio? Is he providing you a usage agreement of some sort to display his work online? How much will re-prints cost, if you need more to send out?

Just some things you might want to check into.
