What kind of focal length (slr lens) do i need for fashion photography? |
i have a canon rebel XTi and i'm looking at lenses $500 below. thanks! I might try around a 100mm prime L lens. A lot of times, you can choose the distance for the shot, so zoom is less important. And the extra speed and clarity can really add to the photo. MAaybe a low zoom would work: 24-105mm f/4L Imagized Stabalised USM right at $1,0000. Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens for $400 My suggestion is to go to your local shop and rent them and give thema thourough testing to ensure you get want you really need. Fashion photography covers a wide range of focal lengths. You'd be using a 200mm for closeups and sweeping back to an 18mm for wider shots. You'd get the best results from prime lenses instead of using zooms, but zooms will be more versatile, unless you have multiple DSLR bodies and an assistant. Another consideration would be Image Stability lenses, as you'll be doing much of your work handheld. I'd look at spending some of the $500 on lighting, as that can make all the difference in fashion, portrait, or glamor. Amateur & professional photographer for 45+ years. My DSLR has a 24-85mm on it and my SLR wears the same lens or a 105mm when shooting glamour. Don't for get your Canon dedicated flash for the runway stuff. |
