Which 35 mm format lens focal length is the most ideal and practical for fashion photography? |
is it 50 mm? No, not the 50mm. Traditional fashion photographers used 85mm and 105mm lenses on their 35mm SLR's (most used 6x6 cameras for years). I have been shooting glamour (including fashion) using a DSLR and a 24-85mm zoom). The 1.5x focal length multiplier gives me a moderatee wide angle to moderat telephoto range. I do a lot of glamour photography in a "team" situation. That is to say one or two other photographers are shooting different models in the same studio and by the end of the session, each model has representative images from at least one other photographer. During these sessions I have seen photographers using up to 200mm lenses on DSLR's with a 1.6x focal length multiplier. Source(s): Editorial, sports and glamour photographer probably 85-135mm. You would have to stand too close to the model with a 50 mm lens More likely in the range of 80 to 150 to be a little flatter and not exagerate features. At 50 it had better be a full length ++ shot(persons height taking up less than 3/4 of the frame. |
