External flash for Rebel XT under $100?

I am just starting out doing photography and realized that having an external flash would make my indoor shots alot better. I dont really have a big enough budget to be able to afford a canon speedlite. Does anyone know of a good flash for my camera for under 100 dollars? I see one on ebay called a bower E-TTL but I am kind of hesitant to buy it. Does anyone know if this one is any good?

Other than a Canon Speedlight, you might consider Sunpak, Sigma, or Metz flashes that are Canon compliant. However, finding a good flash for under $100 will be tough. You'd be better off with a used flash than a new off-brand cheapie.

Not every flash is safe for digital cameras because of its high trigger voltage. I use Sunpak 383 auto flash on my Sony V1. It costs $70 at B&H but it does not support E-TTL. This flash has it own light sensor to get a correct exposure.

I do recommend to use Canon's speedlite. You will get correct exposure most of the time. You also can control the FEC.
