How am I suppose to cope with this?

I'm 17 years old, alright. I love being me... I have no issues in that what so ever. The thing is though, I'm not all that bright. People constantly make fun of me because I want to be a teacher, and actually help people. Unlike those who laughed at me, I want do something with my life. I say things without thinking... and usually... well..... their kind of beyond stupid. Here's an example. I got out of photography today with the camera that I'll be using for the rest of the year. I was so excited, but I didn't know what that glass thing was. It was beside it. when I asked my friend to help me load the camera, I asked her about it. she told me it was a flash. You know what my response was? "what does that do?" I didn't mean to say it... It just kind of came out. My own friend laughed at me, and told me this: "I'll make sure you don't teach my kids."
I don't think I've ever felt so bad in my life. I realize that it was my fault...... but I think I'm tired of people laughing. help me.

i think you should be able to trust and believe in yourself i'm sure that's why people make fun of you. for as long you believe in yourself no one in this world could shatter your dreams. start chasing your dreams and be able to do it.when you are able to attain that dream it makes it a platform wherein you had proven to yourself and everyone around you that you can do anything.
Be optimistic don't let other people pull you down.

You just need to start thinking about what you say, before you say it. If you cannot do that, you need to be tested for some developmental issues. Some people just don't think about things before they say them. Beyond making an extra effort to really think about stuff before you say them...not much you can do.

First and foremost, I don't think anyone should make fun of you for any reason. I am going to be a teacher and I am a firm believer that anyone can achieve what they want to achieve no matter what. As for saying things before you think; try to slow down. Think about things before you say them. Try to say the sentence in your head before you speak it outloud. Thinking about it first may help. I also think that you need to speak with these people who are saying mean things to you. You need to make it known to them that it is unacceptable for them to treat you like this.
Good Luck!

First of all, don't be so sensitive. Looking back, no one but you is going to remember, so why waste time thinking about it? Second, just tell your friends to take you more seriously and if they can't, I think you need different friends. I gotta tell you though, ditzy people are really entertaining (i have a lot of ditzy friends)...

well 17..... I'm 41.... and the person you describe is me, then and now.....I was a teacher, before i took early medical retirement.....believe me it gets better with time.....the mistakes or funnier, and the laughs bigger....the difference is you learn to laugh too.

thumbs up

Lighten up.

If you'd thought about it, you'd have been able to figure it out, most likely.

But you popped out with the question, so you're friend made a joke about it.

You're only 17; you're not in a position to become a teacher; you need to get a college degree, and then a teaching credential.

In all that time, you'll be able to figure out whether or not that really is what you want to do.

It's no big deal that you say dumb things.

If the teasing gets to you, you might let your friends know it hurts your feelings.

But if they're just teasing, as friends do, try not to take it too seriously.

"I'll make sure you don't teach MY kids" sounds like a joke to me.
