Is it possible to persue a career in photography.? |
I want to but it seems as if the number of photographers out there are flooding the market.which means less job oppertunites.A lot of people are uneducated when it comes to art photography so it becomes really hard to sell.I dont want to be a weeding photographer. they might make money but wheres the art or fun in that.i might as well take a desk job and endure the toreturing commute everyday where i question my existence and very purporse in life, and then a flash back reminds me i took the job for the money.i dont wont to be a 45 year old guy wishing i had followed my dreams, causing a midlife crisous.upon which i quit my job and pursue my dreams.it just wouldnt be worth the 25 years of torture. is it praticule.then again i dont want to be a starving artist either. working at keyfood, where i steal away a couple of cans to make ends meet.i know people with stupid degrees in 18thcentury art and the cant find a job. Why. because know one gives a **** about 18th century art.ur opinons. damn technology. is it possible that in a few years photographers will be out of a job. Is it possible? Yes. I would suggest going to photography school to learn the basics, learn about lighting and different techniques, and also what is available out there. Your professors are going to be people that are professional photographers, and the will have invaulable advice that they can give you. There are many opportunities out their, such as doing product shots. One of the things that you will need to ask yourself, is are you able to produce something that will be able to catch the clients eye and make you stand out from the rest, and also are you willing to put in the work to get the clients if you are working on your own. The question to ask is what type of photography do you want to do, wedding photography can be artful depending on what the photographer does. Yes there are the classic candid shots, but there are a lot of possibilities that are out there. Do some research ask yourself what type of photography do you want to do, and do you have the drive to make a name for your self. frustrated? Well, to answer your question: yes it is possible to pursue a career in photography. Many photographers work on a freelance basis and are paid by the subject and quality of the photo. Photographers are having a tough time recently do to the increasing popularity of stock image websites such as Istockphoto and veer; these sites sell quality photos to designers who can simply run a search on the image they will need. Photographers sometimes sell their entire portfolio to these sites in an attempt to get a quick fix for financial problems caused by the competitive nature of the profession. They would make much more money in the long run but need it now. This same problem is also beginning to happen with Illustrators. Istock and Veer benefit the designer who will find it cheaper to purchase from these sites as opposed to hiring a photographer for a shoot. Many make a living in photography, but it is a profession that is more competitive every day. Yes, I am mostly photographer of nature, and transit system and I love to take pictures a lot. Definition of art photography is skint. Ask any photographer in his or her business if they would enter this field again many will say "no way". There are certainly far easier ways to make money. Goto photography school, get the skills the other top pros have. Then market yourself well and make yourself some luck. Yes there are plenty of people buy a "pro" camera then go out and struggle, some make it some dont. Better would be to get the skills, goto school or assist a great photographer for a few years first then go and live the dream. Certainly it is possible. I've been selling photos on these sites for a while: http://istophoto.googlepages.com/ |
