Water photography question.?

Im talking about water coming straight from a faucet.

I turn the shutter speed up to 1/2000, let it focus, and I use flash

But for some reason, the pictures aren't turning out as sharp.

Here is one picture.

What am I doing wrong?
Is it because the water is moving?

and do you need to know what type of camera I have to answer this?

See if focusing manually will help. Focus on the nearest droplet.

What was the aperture setting that you were using on the camera, if you are using a shallow depth of field that will have an affect on the sharpness of the picture over all, the shutter speed that you are using is quick enough to stop the movement of water. Try playing around with your apeture to see if you can get the results that you want.

Thanks first answer;
I'll go try that.

Set the camera on a tripod. Pre focus the camera and turn off the auto focus. Turn off the IS. Use a smaller aperture. Dim the lights in the room. The shutter speed is only being used to exclude the effect of room light so it is not as critical. The flash speed is usually better than 1/5000. For the auto thrysistor flashes the closer it is to the subject the shorter the flash will be.
