Can someone help me with a photography question? |
I have a canon rebel and I want to take pics at a hockey game, but I can't use a flash. I've tried both av and Tv but it blurs the background. I'd love help if anyone can offer any. :) TV lets you choose the shutter speed. Av lets you choose the aperture. For freezing motion, you need to work with the shutter speed. You'll need a faster film, I'd try at least 400. Kodak makes good 400 ASA film. You could also try something faster, i.e. 800 or 1600. You also need to consider how you are relating to the action. If you sit at the middle of the arena and they skate by you, it will require a fast shutter speed. Think of what it looks like when you are driving down the freeway and look out the passenger window. The grass, trees, buildings become a blur. If you get behind the goal and wait for them to skate towards you, a slower shutter speed can freeze the action. Also think about capturing the action at the peak moment where the person has come to a stop. This would be when the stick is up in the air just about to come down and hit the puck. Use a wide-angle lens and get right next to the rink for better images. If you can use a flash, try it up close. It won't do much if you are 50 feet away. Good luck Get yourself a fast lens like 70-200mm F2.8 L. This will give you fast shutter speeds ,cheaper option would be 50mm 1.8 |
