Where can I take intermediate Photography classes in the San Francisco Bay Area? |
I am a graphic designer and took a basic photography class in school. After that I am going at it on my own but there is so much more to learn like lighting, pro gear, other formats, studio work, working with models, compositions and knowing the aesthetics of a what is considered a great shot. Most colleges and universities only offer introductory classes or entire programs that require a formal application. I just want to find an open enrollment sort of deal short of actual apprenticeships. And although I should just go out there and just shoot, my work is offering to pay for my job-related classes... Photoshop and Flash classes are so boring. Try your local community college .. they usually have follow-on courses to the Photography and Graphics Art series ... Source(s): I'm an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree (already had my UGrad/Grad Degrees, Retired Military too), but now that the 'birdies' are gone .. it is time for ME to enjoy myself .. so YES, I am taking a Course in Digital Photography (and no, there was no special application) this semester ... and will be taking the follow-on courses as well. I am having fun in the course right now .. and it also is fun to be able to pull out of my office the slides, negatives, etc from the past several decades to act as a counterbalance to my "NEW" Digi-Imaging SLR Camera! Interestingly enough .. the Professor/Grad Assistants seem to like the MIX of "old school (35mm format)" and the new stuff I've taken ... but that is because I have images from around the world due to my Military Duties/Stations. I'll tell you SF City College has some good ones but I will give this little piece of advice for what it's worth. Once you know how to operate the camera and have a vision of what you want, just get some equipment and experiment. Thousands of photographers go through those classes and they all turn out run of the mill. Everyone using the same poses, lighting techniques, etc. Think originally. Trust your vision. Use flashlights and arch lamps for lighting if you want..know what I am getting at? Unless you intend to open studio and take photos for snotty faced kids graduations and birthdays..... The Photographic Society of America (PSA) The Photographic Society of New York (PSNY),those are the best For all the Photographers. San Jose State University has the largest public art school outside of the private art school system, and has one of the largest and best photo departments in the area. If you have time just go there and visit if you don't believe me. However, I have to say that the photography department is more focused on fine art rather than commercial although they do offer some great courses in commercial arts. |
