For studio photography, what is better: a flash system or continuous lighting? |
i have half a set up for each system and would like to purchase ONE complete set, depending on which one is better, as i dont know. THANKS why not use both? you can filter for crossed curves with different lightsources, or you an use whichever is appropriate for the job in hand. i use a Metz 45ct5 for everything, its either got reflectors or slave units attached, and for many years i used an old 120 projector as a backlight! its not so much as to which is better, its more like which one is suitable for what you want it to do for you. you cant drag a cullinan flash head around an open venue... oh, and should you consider the metz option, i developed a battery system which lasts for 360 shots, and recycles in under 1 second from manual full power, on motordrive it just flashes... and the cost, less than five quid. its 4 resistors in series, a PC CPU fan, and a box from maplins... oh, and a 12volt/ 5amperes dry battery. (i also use the power supply to run my amplifiers, effects pedals and mixing desk..) and five amperes is a lot of power....and you can charge it from your cigarette lighter socket. Source(s): still doing it there are some many studio flash systems that come with both continuous tungsten lighting and flash that fires out on the trigger. perhaps this is what you are looking for? the tungsten lighting is good for focusing or juz to see what kind of lighting you would approximately get with the flash. naturally they might come with accessories such as barn doors or softbox or umbrellas. these sets are kind of expensive though. |
