The more megapixels the better?

I want to buy a new digital camera and I came accross the Fuji FinePix 9.0-Megapixel Digital Camera for $399 I was just wondering if 9 megapixels is better then what the average camera takes?

Also how much optical zoom should I be looking for?

Actualy once you get to 5 you wont see a lot of improvement, the thing to look for is Optical Zoom if you want to take pictures like at a graduation or a game where you subject is at a distance good sight to compare cameras below My personal preference is Canon

yes is good i have a 6 pixels camera and works very good the resolution is very clear

An image that takes up your entire computer desktop is only 1 megapixel. My two best digital cameras are 5.1 MP. I ordered a 12" X 18" print of a 5 MP photo, and you cannot see the pixels.

If you're going to spend that much money, go for more zoom instead of more MP.

I wish I had known about this site before I bought my HP 5.3 mega pixel. But as Tom H said, once you hit 5 and up, unless you are a total Pro, you will not see much change..Lot's of extra $$ for more pixels..

9 mega pixels no use 4 normal photography
- file size gets too large

4 - 6 is just good enuf

my 2.1 megapixel takes cool shots too ... so 9 is way ahead of me + i don't fancy it !

2x optical zoom just right !
