Digital camaras: old or new?

Hey everyone - I have a question about digital cameras.

I'm currently using a Sony DSC-F707. I'm borrowing it though - I would like one of my own.

Now, new, the DSC-F707 must have cost some 800 or 900 Euros. These days however, it costs some 200 - 250 Euros second hand. I was wondering what more one could expect for that money, as I would like to at least maintain the quality the DSC-F707 gave me.

So basically, I was wondering - how do these good old ones stack up to the new ones in the 250 Euro price category, like a Fuji s6000fd / s6500fd or the Panasonic FZ8?

In reading Anthony's answer, I thought it might be a good idea to clarify my question a little.

I was simply wondering whether buying an old (perhaps some five years), second hand camera that used to be the best there was would be a good alternative for buying a recent and average camera, since both can be just as expensive these days.

But thanks for the answers anyway! Any help is very appreciated.

I would go to http://www.imaging-resource.com and using the links on the side, choose cameras by the price range (250 Euros are around 300 U.S.).

The link will list cameras in that price range and at that point you can compare specifications.

The new cameras are fine; in my opinion, the big variable is the skill of the photographer. A digital pro will get a good shot, even with the older camera, while a lousy photographer will fail no matter what camera they're given.

The Fuji S6500fd is far from average; if you care to compare these two photos...

... you'll see that the Fuji S6000fd's sensor, even though it's a bit smaller, can basically beat the cr*p out of the Sony f707's.

Granted, the F707 has a few advantages of its own: faster lens, flash hotshoe, lens thread, macro focus range, etc. But then, the Fuji has other relevant advantages: more resolution, higher ISO settings, more wide angle, more telephoto, maximum shutter speed, faster burst shooting, (probably) higher resolution video, RAW format, larger and more detailed LCD screen...

As for the Panasonic FZ8, it has its own advantages, too, mainly its higher quality optics, longer zoom (more telephoto but less wide angle), optical stabilizer, SD/SDHC card compatibility, faster burst shooting... but it has a *way* lower ISO performance than either the Fuji or the Sony.

don t buy an old camera The new cameras r much better
Look at this camera it will give you much than any old camera
