What's the flower on digital cameras?

I have a fuji a345 and one of the options is that when hit a button with a flower, and when i take a picture the flash doesn't come up. I know a friend has a digital camera by Sony and it has the flower too. I just never knew what it was. Can any pros of digital photography help? I lost the booklet somewhere and can't really find it. Thnx

As the others said, the flower icon indicates Macro mode, Macro mode is for taking extreme close-up shots, 5cm or less. That means that you can approach your subject by 5cm to 0cm -depends on the camera- and the camera still focuses.
And for the flash doesn't come up in the Macro mode, this is because you are supposed to be very close from the subject and if the flash is on it would destroy the shot -your photo will become all white- and that's because camera flash has a specific range of distance the should not exceed.

I think the flower icon indicates the ability to take a picture in macro mode - meaning you can take an extreme close-up without the image coming out all fuzzy and out of focus. Give it a try!

the flower on most digital cameras is the macro setting for very close pictures such as flowers or bugs ect.

yes, it's Macro mode to take closeup shots
