While inkjet printers became obsolete in 2004 (Ken Rockwell, on color management) or so, they are still being produced for those who do not want to wait for their photos to come back from the lab or who love to print "adult" photos for their own amusement or their friends.
Prints made by photo labs cost less, look better and last much longer than any inkjet photo.
That said, you can spend a hundred dollars or so and much, much more in ink and paper over the life of the printer or you can edit your images, choose those you really want printed and then of less than $.17 for a 4x6 print (over $.50 if you print it yourself using your own inkjet printer).
