I'm in search of a new camera. no more than $400 possibly $500. something good, more than 8.3 mp. ideas?

i like to take pictures & like different features. i currently own a fuji finepix 8.3 mp. i want one that will take great looking pictures like the kind you see on flickr. please help!

If you are willing to spend just under $500 and realize that a 6MP sensor on a DSLR is far superior to a 10MP sensor on a point and shoot camera, you can buy a nice DSLR with 18-55mm lens.

That said, the Nikon D40 with 18-55mm lens is below your high end and its sensor is over 15 times larger than the one on the Fujifilm camera.

It seems that everyone is stuck on the pixel count of sensors 鈥?Thank you marketing people!

Pixel count is one of four factors that can help you determine the quality and resolution you can expect from a digital camera in order of importance.

* Quality of the lens
* The quality and sophistication of the analog to digital converter within the camera.
* Sensor size
* Pixel count

Canon SD870. You will not go wrong with any canon camera u buy. then even have the sd750 which is also good

The new Panasonic TZ5 (released in April, 2008) has 10x optical zoom, 10 Megapixel, shoots true 720p HD video too.

The 3.0 inch display also features 460,000 pixel count for outstanding picture quality.

Nikon D40X or D60. It does not really matter how good a camera you buy the photos you take are usually the same . Fancy cameras allow you to make more mistakes yet correct them. Nikon is a good make and I would reccommend them.

If you are looking for a pocket size sub-compact camera that will take some excellent photos Canon's new PowerShot SD890 IS has a lot of great features. It is 10Megapixel, has a 5X optical zoom, Motion Detection, Optical Image Stabilization. Face Detection.

Sub-compacts do not have manual features and will generally not take photos of the same quality as a full size SLR camera (for the reasons Fhotoace has pointed out), but for a small camera you can take anywhere, this is a very nice model at around $399.

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

Looks like you have an idea of what you want.

Try Fuji, Panasonic, Olympus, Sony in addition to Canon and Nikon. They're all good brands. You should also think about size, weight and ergonomics.

To be more objective go to this comparison site -
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare....

All you need to do is plug in what you want, and it gives you a comparison of different models. Don't worry if you don't know what the question means, just skip it and move on to the next question.

Then go to Amazon and do a search for the models you like and read the reviews.
