Best lens for landscape photography using the Canon EOS 40D ???

I would like to know about 5 different wide angle lens that would be great for shooting sunset/sunrise,land,buildings,etc...

I don't want to spend more than $650. I'm studying HDR photography so a great wide-angle lens is very important =D.

I don't take landscape photos myself, but one point I'd make is that the 10-22mm is an EF-S lens. That's fine for the 40D but will restrict your choice of bodies if you choose to upgrade in a few years time as fhotoace suggests, unless you sell the lens at the same time.

You may also want to consider the 17-40mm f4L as it's an EF lens so compatible with the whole range of Canon dSLRs and being an L-series will have better weather-sealing, although it will be nowhere near as wide as the 10-22.

Well for the best lens for shooting landscape and architectural subjects you will need to spend the money for a 10-22mm Canon lens

Since you will be using your lenses for decades and replacing your DSLR's every three to four years, you can see that spending the money for a Canon lens is really more important than your camera
