Advice for my summer dream please!!? |
Hello- I am from italy (though I went to college/grad school in the USA) and I'm a psychologist (licensed in US) and an interpreter/translator. My hobby is nature/landscape photography. Anyway- I would LOVE to spend a few weeks/a summer in hawaii, preferably oahu working in some capacity (in order to afford my stay) and having time to devote to exploring nature and taking pics. Can anyone offer advice about how to get temp/summer jobs there, especially as a foreign citizen? I'd be willing to be flexible in terms of what I do (don't expect to work in my field). What are some good places on oahu to live? Being near wilderness is a priority for me. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! Unless you have a work visa or a green card, you can't work here. But, doing waitressing seems like the best option (if you have experience) as I am not sure of any other short-term type job. Follow Craigslist as they occasionally have short term job opportunities. You might possibly look at photog assignments with a summer or youth camp as well. Google summer camps for Hawaii and see what's available. Molokai Complex, Maui District, Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) is actually looking for a permanent school psychologist. It isn't Oahu, in fact, there are no traffic lights on the island. We have between 7,000 and 8,000 people on an island 38 miles long and 10 miles across, so we do have wilderness. About three-quarters of the school population has some Native Hawaiian descent, which is unusual, even in Hawaii. If you're trying to find wilderness in Oahu, you're going to be hard pressed. I would suggest you head over to Hawaii instead for wilderness, however, you'll have a harder time finding a job there too so you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. |
