If I want to be a photographer what should I study now as a high school student? |
I am a sophmore in high school, and I want to be a photographer, ( people mostly, landscaping for fun/selling), what should I be studying and learning about. I have already learned basic and advanced photography classes, and thats all my school has. High school classes have no bearing on college, per say. However, I would suggest, (and as you already have) take any photography classes that are available. Save your pictures to develop a portfolio to show to potential colleges. Join/make a photography club. Also, when you get to college, if you have enough experience you may be able to test out of a couple of entry level photography classes. see what your local community college has to offer. once you start college, go into journalism or some sort of media major to learn more about the career. Keep shooting every chance that you get, you might als try to find some books but mostly just keep shooting photographer if your school has a film course, film history, art history. these are all good courses as well. I learned a tonn from my history teacher about composition, lighting, mood. Also just general art courses are good as well. learning how light works getting a better idea of contrasts, color theory and composition will all make you a better photographer. Adobe Photoshop, buy a Canon XL camera, MAC and photoshop. |
