What lens should i get?. Nikon 18-55mm, Nikon 28-80mm or Nikon 70-300mm? |
hi guys, i am getting a new canon 30d, i have limited budget and can afford just one lens at the moment, will get others later on, i will be shooting general, mixture of everything, landscapes, portrait, and some times a bit macro, i know none of them can work for all situations, but my question is what can be the best choice for now, as i am in hurry to buy something now with my new camera, i m new to photography but have some knowledge, good enough for my hobby, thanks in advance hi ..... nikon lenses wont fit canon cameras ......coz of they r different brands and each one has it's own mount...... anyway ...check the links below for canon lenses for ur criteria ...good starting lenses ; http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results/con... neglect the second one coz it's super wide u don't need ....if they r unaffordable for u now check the folllowing link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results/con... the first lens has the image stabilization ((IS)) which is something good and consequently make the lens more expensive ......that's the reason y the 2nd lens is much cheaper.... there's 3rd party companies which make lenses for other brands cameras ..... their glasses r decent and worth checking . now here's the 3rd party lenses: sigma http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results/con... tamron http://www.bhphotovideo.com/3results/con... i couldn't filter them perfectly ,,,so u have to keep ur eye on something between 17,18-50,55,70,80 mm.((for sigma and tamron)) i hope i didn't confuse u with those links and alot of options but u post a wide Q and here's a wide answer .... i just want u to keep in mind that u will find a lot of lenses with the same or close focal length ((mm)) but a huge price difference and that's belong to the followings: 1.1st party lenses((the same company that makes the camera)) prices r much expensive than the 3rd party lenses ((due to glass type)) . 2.the image stabilization ((IS)) which is perfect feature to maintain ur handheld shoots sharp for a certain limit ((2-3 stops slower shutter speed )) but make the lens more more expensive. 3.the maximum aperture size ((f/#)) the smaller the number the faster the lens ((dealing greatly with dim light))....but more more more expensive . Given the choice of subjects you list I would avoid the 70 -300mm. My own choice would be for the 18-55mm lens, I have one and find it an excellent all round lens, the increased focal length when attaching to a digital camera also makes it an excellent portrait lens. the 18 -55 should fine but you can't put a nikon lense on a cannon. photographer I would recommend getting the 18-55mm. It's a great general all-around budget lens, it is better at landscapes and macro than any of the other lenses you listed... I wouldn't want to shoot a macro shot with a 70-300mm! For portraits a fast prime lens would be ideal, but that isn't listed. The 70-300 is the best lens for portraits in your list. The 28-80mm is Nikon's lowest-end lens, and I have herd from a couple of sources distortion can get ugly. The 18-55mm has ED glass, but I don't know if that makes a difference for wide-angle photography. The 70-300mm is a great lens for the price, but since it's so slow, it's only really useful in the daytime handheld. If I had that lens, I would use it for sports, portrait, or candid shots, which two out of three you haven't listed. By the way, you can't mount a Nikkor lens on a Canon camera... but you probably already know that. 18-55mm lens for landscapes, sea views,28-80mm lens for portraits, wedding,70-300mm lens for longest distances that couldn't reach ,so like moon, stars, transports, actions shot, sports, etc.I have three lenses and found very useful for me.get them now. You cannont use any Nikon lens because you have a Canon camera. Smart choice, though. I have Canon10D, 1D Mark II and 5D and am extremely happy with them. I would suggest you to get the Canon EF 24-70 mm f/2.8 L lens. It is sharp as a prime and you will be able to use this lens the rest of your life without having to upgrade it except perhaps upgrading camera backs. If you really cannot bite the bullet for an L lens, then EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens is a very versatile , too. Happy Photographing! ^_^ |
