What is the best Nikon lens for professional looking portraits? |
I am looking to start doing more portraits rather than landscapes but I'm not sure what the best type of lens would be seeing as I am just getting into photography. I have a N-55 35MM SLR. Any help? The accepted portrait lenses for 35mm cameras are the 85mm and 105mm. There were thousands of them made each year during the years 35mm SLR's were king. You should be able to find used ones that will fit on your N55. I too have a N55 and use a non-auto-focus 105 f.2.5 with excellent results. If you have the extra $$$ find a good used Nikon 24~85mm f/2.8 and shoot like a wild person. Source(s): ProPhotog Depends on your budget. If you want to get by on the cheap, pick up a 50mm f/1.8 for around $100. 105mm is generally** considered the portrait lenght. So as Mr Ace says grab one of the ones he said - you would be happy even at 85mm cause its such a nice lens. **generally 105mm on 35mm film a If I was buying a "dream" lens for portrait work for your camera, I'd get a Telephoto AF DC (Defocus Control) Nikkor 105mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens for $925. This looks like a really cool lens, if you learn how to use it. Number Two choice: Telephoto AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Autofocus Lens for $760. Close thirds: Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D IF Autofocus lens for $1,000 plus new. The similar f/1.8 is "only" $400. |
