What are some service projects for my community? |
I need some ideas for service projects, please. Preferably related to one or more of the following: Children Books Photography Arts and Crafts Music It doesn't have to specifically be a service project. Community workshops held in the local library will work wonderfully as well. I had an idea to do a book drive and collect money for my local library, but I need to expand on that a little. What can most libraries use? (new wings? more comfortable furniture to place in a corner for people to sit and read? landscaping work? New computers? Other ideas?) Along with a book drive, etc, I could do a fun day, with arts and crafts ... some kind of educational "book day"? That idea needs a LOT of expanding as well. I just need a little help with the brainstorming of the ideas! Thank you so much! I'll be candid. Everyone like to be a part of a glamorous community service project, but few are willing to get dirty. Those dirty areas are where the greatest needs are. When 15% of the people in my state not knowing where their next meals are coming from ~ I can't get too excited about comfy furniture and landscaping at a public library. If you really want to make a difference with a community service project, why not check in at your local food bank distributing network? Many food banks now participate in a weekend backpack program for kids in which children from impoverished families are sent home with a backpack full of healthy snacks to feed them for the weekend. While many of these kids get free breakfast and lunch at school ~ on the weekends, they go hungry until Monday. Why not raise awareness and funds for this type of program? You can even expand the program by doing a children's book drive and sending the kids home with a new (or slightly used) book once a month. I volunteer weekly in elemantary schools by teaching Character First! Education with a group of teens from my church. You should google it... it is a great program! |
