Photography question: How to get a job contract with Gucci, Armani, Warner Bros, etc?

read a lot of questions on here about how to get into photography for weddings, nature, etc.. but what about the big commercial gigs like shooting for Gucci, The CW, Warner Bros,.... basically working on sets of film movies, tv, high fashion clothing. To be like some successful photogs like Patrick Hoelck, Mark Mann to name a few. ... im not looking to open just a studio and take portraits or weddings or going out to take photos of nature... I know people say go to a photography school and having contacts....but is there anything else? Can you build a portfolio and go knock on Warner Bro's door and be like hey take a look at my work? how does this stuff work? example of what i want to do is on here www.patrickhoelck.com

Pretty much the same answers. Just put in commercial and fashion, in place of weddings and nature.

You need to put in time with in an organization where people can get to know your work, and you can get to know the people that do the hiring for the kind of work your interested in.

If you just show up with a port in hand, you wont make it past the receptionist. These people dont have time to drop everything to come see some guy in a lobby, that wants to tell them the same thing a thousand others would try to tell them.

Start out where you can, in a company that is associated with fashion/commercial shoots. Start with local companys, build from there. Network, but dont expect these things to go fast. You might have to wait until someone dies before there is room for advancement.

For every photog or model that is successful in the highend fashion world, there are thousands trying to get there.

You cant side step the work and didication that it will take.

I just finished watching Martin Scorsese's documentary about Bob Dylan, called No Direction Home.

Dylan, a guy from just east of Nowheresville, showed up in New York in 1961 with a cheap guitar and a bunch of songs.

All he did was play them for anyone who'd listen.

By 1963 he was the most important folk musician on the planet.

By 1965 he was the most important musician on the planet.

He was 24.

Point?

If you have talent and believe in yourself you can make your own rules.

You won't have to knock on doors...they'll just open.

Just my 2 cents.

The way you get ahead in this world is to knock on doors and ride up elevators.
