13 year old summer job!?

I know what I should do this summer for a job, I just don't know how to get it started up...well I am saving money for a few things in particular. Nothing expensive though. I am only 13 so I don't know how this works!

I wanted to start a photography business, I may only be 13 but I am an excellent photgrapher! I normally shoot thing that I think most people wouldn't buy... like nature, people, etc. I just don't know what to shoot with my camera so that people would buy it... or how to sell it to people. I don't know what prices to start at either! I can start up early, but I have to be in by legal curfew. I live in the western U.S. so whatever their curfew is consided...So any ideas...? Thanks for your help! I would really appriciate it a lot!

Hello!

I really like the fact that you are deciding to go freelance as a summer job, especially at your age, when it is hard to find jobs. I'm fifteen and I'm having trouble.

First of all, make sure you have enough money to start your business. The best way to tell that is by setting up a hypothetical situation answering this question: If I were starting my business from scratch right now, how much money would I need for my supplies? The money it takes is the money you need to have before starting the business.

Second of all, shoot what you're good at, even if you think people won't buy it. If people don't seem to want to purchase it, ask people what they would like to see from you.

Third of all, before starting your business, make sue you have a portfolio of of work no more than a year old to show your clients.

And last of all, a good time to end ( a curfew) would be 9:00 each night or so. Work it out with your parents.

Hope I helped!

PS. I recommend making your business specific. Don't just say that your taking pictures for anything. Like, have a business where you're taking pictures to make cards or something like that. :)
How about taking photographs at children's birthday parties, for the summer.?Make some simple fliers or business cards and ask to pin them up at local grocery stores, recreation areas, beaches, bowling alleys, libraries, and shopping malls.Look for places where parents accompany their children.Ask all your friends and neighbors if they are planning on a summer party?Sell yourself, show your recent photos!Start with a low flat rate, say $50,for about 20 or so large photographs per party! It could work, may take awhile to get rolling!Just an idea, good luck!!!!
well, since you are so young doing anything in photography would be near impossible.
i would suggest babysitting.
i get a couple of jobs a week and can make anywhere between 20-60 dollars for one job.
its usually pretty easy and pays pretty great.
start off small with friends of the family or your parents coworkers, things like that.
i like to network so whenever i see a mother playing with her kids at the park, i try to make conversation and show maturity and i give out my number.
this has gotten me a couple of jobs.
when i first started babysitting a few years ago, it wasn't great cause i only got calls once ina while but as you get older and have more and more people to babysit for you make more money.
but otherwise there is not too much for 13 year olds, sorry.
i hope this helps.
and to the guys who is 15, if you have a chickfilla nearby they hire at fifteen and give food, a friend of mine works there and he loves it.
What someone said about birthday parties is a good idea. I would try something like that. Or go to a crowded place on weekends where couples would go (bring and adult!!), offer to photograph them with a Polaroid and charge like $3.00 a picture or something. (three for $5 ?) Babysitting pays pretty good, but it does not sound like that's what you want to do, so don't listen to her at all.
Another thing I was thinking, if a parent would allow you to use thier account......try selling some of your best pictures on eBay as a self-representing artist. If you try this though, I suggest using a very good scanner or digital camera to make sure you have a crystal clear picture to post for auction.

As for asking about which subject of photograpy will sell....there is no answer to that. Trial and error, we all have our own style. It is style that sells, it is art.
Jobs

There are many ways you can earn money. I babysit and I get paid very well. But I think you have to be 13-14 to start.

My Rates

1-2 kids ~ $5.00/hour
Each additional child ~ $1.25/hour

*When you are babysitting a baby under 10 months old, you should ask to be paid a bit more than your regular charge, since you must give more attention, change the baby, feed the baby, and put the baby to bed.

Another Idea is to have a bake sale/ lemonade stand. Me and my sisters baked all week, made poster signs and decided how much we should charge for each baking good. Any age is perfect for this job!

Another good job is to start a walking dogs for neighbours that have dogs. You can either put up posters around town, or hand out fliers to people you know that have dogs. I would charge 5 dollars per dog.

Another good job is to wash cars, or open a car wash business with friends for a few days, mow the lawn, shovel drive ways in the winter, and help people clean there house that might need help.

If are 14 years or older, you could also work at fast food restaurants, or grocery stores too.
