I recently bought some photography equipment and would like to better understand how to take good pictures.? |
I have a 35mm SLR and bought a wide angle lens, a telephoto lens (both with hoods), a polarizer and slide film. I want to know what I should be aware of when using the hood, the polarizer and whether this equipment is more conducive to a specific type of photography (nature vs portrait). I am traveling in two weeks and want to take great photos. Take it back and get a good digital slr. That way, you can see what your getting. I assure you that you will be very upset if you return from your trip to discover that you pictures didn't come out the way you wanted. If you can't take it back, take a few practice rolls and experiment. Any camera w/ SLR lens is great for nature and portrait. The wide angle lens is great for nature, because you get to take in the whole scene. Portrait photography is best done w/ a zoom lens, so you get the background and person and not just a whole lot of "noisy" background on both sides. The best way to take great photos is just to start snapping pictures you see in YOUR eyes. Things that say something to you. Or move you. A couple walking down the street holding hands and you take a picture from the back. That shows somebody in love. Or a hawk flying in the sky shows freedom. Or construction shows growth. Even sun through the trees at evening is just beautiful. Whatever you want to take pictures of... something that will mean something to or move you. |
