I want to enter in an OFFICIAL nature photography contest?

Does any one know of any OFFICIAL nature photography contests??? I want my photos to be safe. I'm not a profesonal I'm just an amature hobby photographer but I love some of my pictures and it would be fun to enter. However I'm a little afraid of putting my favorite photos on the internet, I know they are not amazing but, I wouldn't want someone else to have my pictures, unless i sold it to them(if they are good enough to sell). Which brings me to the other part of my question, does anyone know of any magazines of people that would buy nature photography? Thank you for any help.

Depending on what type of nature photos you have, here are a few links to help get you started. The first one is for the national parks...all photos must be national park pictures.

You can check with George Lepp and see if he knows of any. He is one of the most well known nature photographer in the US.

I'll let the others point you towards some contests, but I want to put in my 2垄 anyway. Since you are concerned about people stealing your images from the internet, this answer will be especially important for you.

Before you enter any contest, be sure to read every single word in their terms and conditions. Some contests say that simply entering your photograph will transfer all rights to the photograph to the organization running the contest. Even more say that the winning images will become theirs. No matter how tempting the prizes, please consider very carefully before you enter such a contest.

There are other contests that treat you with respect and let you maintain the copyright to your original work, but you must agree to let them use a copy of your photo in their own publications and promotional literature at no charge. I see this often and it's just a cheap way for the organization to obtain some quality photos at little or no cost.

Just read all of the fine print and be sure that the terms of the contest are terms that you can live with.
Usually, when you enter a photo contest, you are giving the rights to the photo to whoever is putting on the contest for freeeeeeeee... This is the reason they have contest. They don't have to pay for a photographer or a good photo. If they don't get any great photos, they are not out much at all and will start all over again.
Good luck. YOu just learned a lot.
Check in the photography magazines, a lot of them have contests! Outdoor Photographer has some and so does Popular Photography. But as with everyone else, do check to see that you agree with ALL the fine print before you submit!
