im confused between cannon, nikon, and hassleblad...which would you choose and why? Canon and Nikon are the top brands for field work because they have better bodies and a wider variety of professional quality lenses than any other brand. Between Canon and Nikon, it's largely a matter of personal preference - they can both do just about anything that any pro needs, but Canon does have a lead in technology and market share. For example, the Nikon D2Xs can do 8 frames per second and the Canon 1Ds Mk lll can do 10 frames per second. None of the other brands can do more than 3 frames per second. Nikon has a 12 megapixel camera and Canon has a 17 megapixel camera. The other brands top out at 10 megapixels. These professional cameras are also built to last for more than 250.000 pictures before they need repairs. The other brands don't even come close.
Hasselblad cameras provide over double the resolution (megapixels) of even these professional level Canon/ Nikon cameras, so they're better if you need really large prints. The flip side is that they're also bulkier and more expensive, so Hasselblad cameras are mostly confined to studio work.
Any of these professional cameras with a selection of lenses and other gear will cost over $10.000, so unless you're filthy rich you'll start out with a cheaper camera and work your way up. As you gain experience and develop a need for specific features, you'll figure out for yourself what your ultimate camera is.
I'm not a pro myself, and I don't need the features of a professional camera - nor can I justify the expense. I currently use a Nikon D200. This camera offers everything I DO need for a lot less money. nikon..been using it since my 1st cam.. NIKON is the best Depends on what you are using it for and how rich you are.
Hasselblad is the choice for Professional photogs that are studio based and have a lot of cash to throw around. Best lenses and of course, the most pixels and the best image overall.
Nikon and Canon, well, most photographers use these because studio or location, --easy.
Great images and the lenses are varied. Don't skimp on money on these.
I use a Canon 5D and am extremely satisfied with the results. I shoot studio and sports, location, it's endless.
I chose the Canon 5d for it's full frame sensor and impeccably clear images. Nikon is a great camera as well. From the Nikon d200 up to the D2xs - great images.

Good luck! The Hasse is in a different league than the small format SLRs. So if you want it, be prepared to lay out an enormous amount of money, not just for the camera and back, but for the high powered computer needed to work with 39 megapixel files. |
