Why does red look orange in my pictures?

I'm taking pictures with good point and shoot digital cameras (olympus & nikon) in the auto setting. Why do red objects come out looking orange in my pictures.

Try using a proper white balance setting, either one of the presets or, better still, adjust it manually, using something white or gray as reference (many cameras offer a 鈥渨hite balance -set鈥?function to do that... as TomTom said, your camera's user manual should give you more details). Also, unless it's absolutely necessary, avoid using the slow-synchro/red eye flash setting, either use the normal one or none at all if possible.

if you are taking them inside
you have to change the settings
it explains it in the manual

well on my camera you have to change the settings. for example if you are inside then you would maybe change it and if you are outside at night you could change it to the night vision setting. It just depends on your camera. What i would do is either look it up on your camera's website or check the manual!!! good luck!!

yeah that is cause of the flash..!!!
