Zoom Lens Issues with my Nikon Coolpix 5900?

My digital camera refuses to zoom for a tighter shot. At the moment it is stuck on the widest angle it can take. The zoom did work again a few days after I noticed the problem. But after about 500 shots (I was on vacation), it's acting up again.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

Whatever the problem is, you don麓t want to mess with it yourself.
The 5900 wasn麓t announced until Feb. 05, so I麓m guessing yours is still under warranty.
