Can this be fixed?

i have a Nikon Coolpix digital camera and the viewing screen got cracked internally..was at a bar and my friend asked some guy to take a picture of our group with my camera and he must have been holding the camera with his thumb and pressed down on it because when i went to view the pictures it was all pixelated (is that word?) the screen was all rainbow colored and definitly broken and theres a clear black thumbprint inside the screen :( can that be fixed or no? where would i even bring it to be fixed? someone told me Best Buy and places like that? it was a $300 camera so i cant just buy a new one :( please help

my dad bought it over a year ago so i dunno if its covered...does it automatically come with a warrenty or do u have to buy it extra? i cant ask him about it cuz he doesnt know its broken and he will flip out on me for letting it get broken (not like i had a choice)

Bummer some gorrilla had to crunch your cam. If your camera is less than a year old it is still under warranty and Nikon may fix it for free. Unless the guy was trying to do isometric exercises with your cam, just pressing on the screen should not have done what it did so they may fix it under warranty. Just clean it up reaaly good and write an angry letter to include with the cam when you send it back for repair.

Here's a link to Nikon's camera repair page. They have factory service centers in Long Island and California. They also use 3rd party authorized centers (link on this page). I've never used those but have used the factory centers a couple times. I dropped my cam once and the lense wouldn't come out--they fixed it for free--so they are pretty liberal.

Good luck--here's the link.

If they won't fix it under warranty then they will email you the cost to repair it and you can then decide if you want to have it done. You're only out the cost of shipping if you decide not to do it.

Chances are it'll cost almost as much to get it fixed as it would to buy a new camera. :(

Well, like the other person said, see if nikon will repair it if it is under warranty. Otherwise, you can still use the camera for snapping pictures, you'll just have to wait until you get to the computer to look at your pictures. I don't usually look at pictures on my cameras screen anyway. This would be a good substitute until you can find a new one.
