I'm going to Sapporo, Hokkaido for a 1 year study course starting from October and I'm thinking of buying a digital camera.
The temperature in Sapporo can drop till -15 degree celcius and even to -45 degree celcius in other parts of Hokkaido where I may be visiting during the 4-6 months of autumn/winter period.
I'm considering buying a Nikon Coolpix S51 or Panasonic Lumix FX30, FX50, FX33 or FX55.
Are there any special care for digital cameras in under 0 degree celcius environment?
Or are there any digital cameras that are more suitable for cold temperatures? Look for a camera that will allow you to attach an external battery pack you can keep in your pocket while shooting. Most camera failures in cold environments have to do with battery failures. Keeping them warm will help a lot.
Keeping the camera in your pocket may work, but sudden changes in temperature can cause condensation on or within the lens, to finding an external battery will be the closest to solving the cold weather issue. i think a sanyo xacti would do, but for all digital cameras, you could always buy insulating materials, or not they would freeze up even when they are off. most digital camera are unable to shoot under 0 degree celcius.
I'm not sure about insulating material but I guess you can try it.
Some people however, will bring their manual rangefinder in this case because they're dependable on extreme condition. Insulate your cameras within a plastic bag, for instance, so that your camera will not receive condensation within, when you enter a warm place from cold surroundings. go to yahoo search
