First, the camera has not been used much but the auto focus does not work. Any reasons why?
Also, I'm considering getting a digital. Possibly a Nikon D40X. Can I use the lenses for my N55 on that digital camera? Don't know the answer to your first question, but I can answer the second one.
You cannot use your old lenses with the D40X. The D40x body does not have the focusing motor, so you will not be able to use auto focus if you use the old lenses. D40x only works with Nikkor DX lenses. I had the same problem with my Nikon N55, turned out there was a recall for them to fix a defective component in the autofocus mechanism. Go to their website and see if the recall notice is still posted. They fixed my camera for free, but it was probably a little over a year ago.
