Which digital camera do you recommend?

Im usually the assigned photographer at our personal gatherings, so I usually take a couple hundred pictures per gathering.

The camera will be for personal use only, but I would still like it to:
-Take good sharp pictures (good focus, not blurry)
-Have a good flash for night pictures
-Have a big LCD screen.
-Be durable, as I use it often and take thousands of pictures.
-Be compact
-Has a good battery life and uses a rechargeable battery (not AA or AAA batteries)

Last camera I had was the Pink Nikon Coolpix S9, but within weeks all of the buttons and menus stopped working, and since I didn't have a warranty on it I couldn't get it fixed, unless i paid $175.

I know Im being very specific on the preferences, but I want a camera that is worth the money.

Thanks for any suggestions or reviews on any camera you think would work for me.

I have a Sony DSC-W80. I got it at Circuit City, and I love that store because the sales associates really know what they're doing. They steered my towards this camera and I'm very happy with the purchase, it was $230, which is a lot to a 14-year-old on a babysitting salary, but I have yet to regret it.

The video mode is better than a camcorder, no lie. The sound is flawless and you can even adjust sound on the camera. The picture...never blurry or anything. The videos play on my 34" LCD with no fault! I'm totally taking advantage of this feature!

The pictures are almost too amazing for me. The camera is a 7.2 megapixel, but I set my picture quality to 5 megapixel because it takes up less space and the pictures turn out beautiful. The image stabilization works really well. I tested it by waving my camera back and forth in the air and randomly took shots without stopping my camera. The weren't the least bit blurry!

There are a few modes in this camera:

Auto Adjustment (For shooting with preset settings)
High Sensitivity (For Low Lighting)
Soft Snap (Adds soft background, good for taking pics of people.)
Twilight Portrait
Twilight
Landscape
Beach
Snow
Video
Prgram Auto (Allows more programming before taking the shot.)

Also, you can remove red-eye, crop the photo, and do a bunch of other editing right on the camera!

The lens is without flaw. I don't even need flash on my shots because the lens can take in enough light.

You can play slideshows on your camera WITH MUSIC!

There's so many things I like about this camera, I can't list them all. I love it so much. If you get this camera, you will not have regrets. It's only $230 max and worth the price. I have the pink one, but it comes in pink, silver, white, and black.

Also, it looks bulky in pictures but it is really small. A little thicker than a casio but less length and width.

Also, don't buy a camera that doesn't have a viewfinder. I was outside in the sun today and I couldn't see my screen! I love that this camera has a viewfinder!

The Only Cons:
*The battery takes 4.5 hours to charge (but it lasts a long time on full charge)
*Sony uses memory stick PRO DUO instead of SD cards, but Circuit City has a deal that when you buy this camera, you get a free 1GB card (which is all you need.)

I would reccomend this to anyone...it is really user friendly. Each setting you put it on show a description of what it is. Someone who has never used a digital camera could figure this out with ease!

the one that cost the most

Try a Soney Cyber shot 7.2 maga pixel. I have one and it works really well. I am on the Yearbook staff, and in art club as wel as an amituer photographer. It is reliable and recharable batteries are abliable for it.

The Sony Cyber Shot is amazing and durable.

Since you want a big LCD and compact, I would recomend the Sony DSC-T100. My friend has had good luck with Sony cameras, and I am getting ready to purchase one myself. The DSC-T100 should be on clearance soon (they just released the DSC-T200) so you would probably be able to get a good deal on the camera. Here is the link to the DSC-T100 review.

Since you will be using this camera frequently, I would highly recommend an extended warranty WITH accidental damage included. Cameras work pretty well most of the time, and its rare that you would need a warranty, but if you are using it at parties and the beach where drinks, water, and sand can possibly ruin your investment, it would be worth it to take out that warranty.

I absolutely love my Canon Rebel EOS as it can do anything but it's pretty expensive. Another fav is the Pentax Optio - it's small, convenient and easy to use. More of a point and shoot camera.

I suggest my camera the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. I don't know if it's still sold, I bought it last Nov. 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom. Excellent 8x10 prints from it. Has image stabilizer, only 1 second delay between shots, very good on AA rechargeables and comes with battery charger.
I also suggest these super zooms:
Canon PowerShot S2 IS, S3 IS
Fujifilm FinePix S5200
Fujifilm FinePix S700
All of these cameras have basically the same features.

canon a570
$170

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck
