New camera........ PROBLEM ALREADY!!!?

Ok, I got this digital camera, a Nikon L11 Coolpix 6.0 MP at Target, and the day I got it, I was taking some pictures, and all of a sudden everything stooped and the little screen turned bright gray. When I tried pressing menu, and then the shutter-release button, nothing happened. Then, I tried to turn it off, and nothing happened. The lens didn't even go down! I was kinda mad, because nothing even happened, so I put it in its box with the lens still up. A few hourse later, a came back to look at it, and the screen was black, not gray anymore, and the lens was still up. When I pressed the on/off button again, nothing happned, except this little red light on the side flashed for a second.
Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm kinda bummed out, because I just got it, and it already isn't working. Is it broken, or is it something digital cameras do? (This is my 1st one)

Oh yeah, I was just holding it when it did that. I didn't shake it or drop it or anything.

get and use AA rechargable batteries.

using cheap batteries wont fix it

always use rechargables

take it back as soon as your can because you don't know how long the warranty is. its probably just that the camera is a bad one. target is cool and they will most likley exchange it no problem.

Sounds like the battery is dead.

LOL, try Ni-Mh batteries instead of alkalines, sounds liek you ate up a set of batteries pretty quick.

It sounds like a battery problem. If the batteries go dead while the lens is out it will stay there.Try some new batteries. Ni-HM rechargeable work fine. Hold a charge and are ecology friendly since they can be recharged.If you camera came with a charger and batteries try charging them again.Typically you have to discharge the batteries completely twice before they will take a real full charge.If you use alkaline batteries, you will only get about 15 pictures before they go dead.If all else fails. Take it back and either get a refund or another camera.
