Looking for a digital camera that takes great action shot photos. I enjoy taking pictures of myself and friends surfing, and with my crappy nikon cool pix I purchased 3 years ago, it always misses the shot. Any suggestions?? Price range 400-700$ You're not going to solve your problem for $400-700. To get the results you want you should be looking at a DSLR camera. The DSLR will address all the problems you are having with your Coolpix - the biggest one being shutter lag.
DLSR's have vitually no shutter lag, plus will give you lots of control over the settings you will need to capture the moment. You may want to consider getting a bigger zoom lens to get you more in the action.
While there are some great point and shoot products on the market, they just won't give you the results you are looking for. As Stephen says, you really want a DSLR. Get a Nikon D50. It has a few "consumer friendly" automatic modes, but still offers total photographic control when you are ready to take charge. The body costs $550.
You will probably want a longer lens for surfing shots and that can get expensive. If this is really your top priority, maybe you can forget about the 18-70 lens I mentioned and get a cheaper but longer zoom, such as Nikon's 55-200 lens for $170. Sigma and Tamron make similar lenses, but the price is so close, I'd just buy the Nikon brand in this class.
Get a 1 GB memory card, such as the Sandisk "Ultra" for decent write speed. You can get these in the $30 range. An "Extreme" is faster, but I doubt anyone would notice the difference except a pro.
Totalling this up, you would spend about $750, so that's close to your budget.
I'm sure someone who is familiar with the Canon line will make their own recommendation and I can't dispute it. Just go with what you can find and either one will be fine. |
