Camera lens error?

So I was uploading pics onto my computer from my nikon L3 digital camera. The lens was out as it was uploading, and when I unplugged it from my computer I tried to turn it off, but it can't retract the lens. I keep trying to turn it on and off, but it just says lens error and tries to retract the lens but is unsuccessful. Please any help?

I tried taking out the batteries, but still no luck. thanks though

Leave the batteries off for a few hours
and then put them back, hopefully
it will clear your lens error

take the battery out and reinsert it, that should help.
