Looking at subcompact digital cameras... should I get the Nikon pix S7C or the Casio Exilim Ex770???

I'd go with the Nikon Coolpix S7c, If you want it I saw it on sale at the Ritz Camera site, they also got some promos at http://www.prioritycodes.com/Electronics... for a discount

Always choose a digital camera that is made by a camera maker .. not an electronics company.

Statistically, they are very similar, but stick with the Nikon.

The Nikon is a little bit bigger (although not heavier), is about $75 more expensive, and has built-in wifi for wireless transfer of images. Oh- the zoom lens is all internal with the Nikon... I guess that's a feature.

Personally- I wouldn't get either. I'd probably go for a camera that you get a few more features with. Useful features in a compact camera include image stabilization, a wider angle zoom, a bigger zoom, manual controls and such.

Consider a Fuji F31fd. It doesn't have image stabilization- but given that it has 2-3 stops better high ISO performance, it's even better- and has truly excellent image quality. I also like the Panasonic FX series, as they have 28mm wide angle lenses with built in Image Stab- but they're not great in low light. The Canon SD series is also a good choice. the SD700IS or SD800IS.

The Nikon DSLRs are top notch, but every review I've ever read on their compact cameras never rates them at the top.
