If I use a Film Use pro Camera lens with a digital pro camera, will it work? My dad has a Nikon N2020 and I was wondering if we can just remove the really long lens of the camera and fit it onto a digital Pro. camera's body. The lens is pretty long and kindof expensive but now since digital cameras are here, I dont want to replace the lens. Any help please? some 35mm SLR lenses will work fine on digital body with same lens mount.
you just might have focus manually It depends on what kind of dSLR you have. The D40 and D40x will not take manual focus lenses and have a whole bunch of other compatibility issues. My D80 will use any Nikon lens ever made. Nikon uses the F-mount, and the current crop of Nikon digital SLRs continues to be mostly compatible with older F-mount lenses.
I'm presuming the lens is an autofocus lens, since the N2020 is an autofocus camera.
Without knowing the specifications of your lens and the digital SLR you are considering, it's tough to give you a definite answer. But generally speaking, yes, older F-mount autofocus lenses will mount and meter and autofocus with the new Nikon digital SLRs, except for the D40 and D40x, which require built-in motors in the lenses--they'll meter, but not autofocus.
If this is a manual focus lens, it should mount on the new cameras, but will only meter on a few of the Nikon SLRs, like the D200, D2hs, or D2x.
A few lenses won't work, if they intrude too much into the mirror box. These are very specialized lenses, which hopefully, isn't the one you have. Most Nikon mount AF lenses will work well with D50, D70, D70s, D80, D100, D200, D300, D1, D2, &D3 series cameras.
On the D40 & D40x, they will expose correctly, but will require manual focus.
Here's an example of some photos taken with an "old and outdated" Nikon 75-300mm film lens on a Nikon D50. They were shot at ISO settings from 400-1600, cropped, and resized before uploading. Not bad, for shots from the 56th row on the opposite side of the stadium.

One of the reasons I stayed with Nikon is the incredible compatibility of their cameras and lenses over the years.
