What is the problem for my Nikon D70s?

I bought a digital camera Nikon D70s. It is a kit with 18-70 Nikkor lens. I also bought a SB800. There are always dark places in the corners of pohotos when I use fill flash.
1. What is the problem in technical use?
2. If it is lens deficiency, which zoom lens I should buy in this range to correct this defect.

The most likely cause is that you are not putting the wide-angle diffuser in place. The SB-800 coverage is supposed to be adequate for a 28 mm lens, but for a wider angle than that, you need to pull down the wide-angle diffuser from the top slot of the unit and flip it into place. This should carry you out to 14 mm. You can also attach the diffuser dome that came with the SB-800 for the same coverage and, perhaps, more even lighting.

If that doesn't solve your problem, perhaps you have a filter on your lens that is causing the vignetting and you just didn't notice it in more evenly lit pictures. Try taking off the filter, if there is one there.

Enjoy. :-) The wide angle lens is so conveniently placed right in the head of the flash that I think many people don't even know they have one! Report It

Nikon D70s has some vignetting (dark corners) at the wide end of the lens.

"The dark border is caused by the lens used and aperature used. All lenses are best in the center and are worse in corners. It depends on the lens if corners are horrible or bad or acceptable or good. You can make corners better by stopping the lens down to aperature 8 or 11. This is a well-know problem for 35 mm film and full-frame chips.

If you use a 35 mm lens on APS size chip then you use only the center of the lens so you don't have dark corners but you use only a part of your lens.

How to avoid lens flare? Use a dedicated lens shade to avoid light from sides. Don't use any filters. Clean front element of your lens. If you have lights in the picture that are causing lens flare you can try to change aperature. You can try to make the flare a compositional part of your picture. You can try to change the position of your camera. Lastly, use a better lens that causes less lens flare."

I like the answers above, one other thing to add, if you have a filter on your lens, Take it off and see if that clears your darker corners (ie you may be seeing the edge of the filter). If it clears up the go find a Hoya Ultra-thin filter instead.
