Which is better the cannon EOS series or the Nikon D series of digital cameras?

Canon EOS series of cameras are lighter and more compact than Nikon D series. Other than that, the different models of each series differ slightly in terms of features and pricing. For example, Nikon D200 is more expensive and better than Canon EOS 30D, but then, Canon EOS 30D is slightly better than Nikon D50. It all depends on what you want and the price you're willing to pay for it.

The two lines are basically equivalent, offering similar features and price/performance. While some products are cheaper from one manufacturer, others will be more expensive. It's really just a matter of preference for one over the other.

I've sworn by Canon for 25 years (back to the days of the A-1/AE-1), so I went with them they introduced the EOS series, and I've been very happy with their products. My father swore by Nikon back in the 60's-80's, and loved them, so from my personal experience, I can't say that either is better.

My advice is if you're serious about photography, find a good local camera store, and try out both lines, and get advice from the people there. You should also make your major purchases (bodies & lenses) there. Yes, it will be more expensive than online or a discount chain, but the service you get will usually be worth it. For other items (memory cards, flashes, accessories), online or a chain is fine.

If you decide to go with Canon, the Rebel XT is a great starter kit. Excellent photos, and relatively easy to master.

Both brands are excellent. More importantly, both brands make excellent lenses. Which camera to get is really a matter of your budget and personal preference.

EOS is better hands down! You can also check into joining a club called Canon Services and they will let you "barrow" or check out cameras and lenses that the average person cannot afford. I assume they still have this service. if not, Canon still rocks.

Canon is the best, they have more lenses to select from, ranging from 14-1200mm. There are so many lenses that will suit your needs doesnt matter if your a pro or not, Canon has it all
