Can a digital camera replace my film camera?

I am a graphic designer and I have a Nikon F80 camera, that I use to take pictures to use in my designs for computer and prints. I am tired of having to take pictures, developp them and scan them, I want to replace it with a digital camera which will be easier for me, but I don't want to loose the quality. What digital camera can replace mine, and retain the quality I need for my graphic works? I need both qualities and camera names if possible!!

If you already have lenses for you F80, the next logical step for you to make the move to digital would be the Nikon D50, D70 or possibly the D200.

Depending how much you are into photography, the D50 will be enough. If you need the features, which are minor, the D70 would be the way to go.

I own a Nikon D50 and have used the D70 and D200. They are great cameras. My D50, at 6 MP, gets the job done for normal sized prints, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10... up to 11x15, but you could probably push it past that with out much noticable distortion. The D70 is also a 6 MP camera and you would have to make the jump to the D200 to get 10 MP if you would be looking for larger prints.

You can't go wrong with Nikon D-SLR cameras. They are all high quality.

There are some great digi cams out there so I say yes but you can always have your prints developed directly to CD. Kodak even can upload them and you can access them from the internet!

yes, but you must pay for that privilege such as high resolution, memory. You may want to have your old film camera handy, but digital gives you more options.

When you start using a high resolution digital camera, you'll never go back: Sony, Nikon, Canon, Kodak.

yes.

I mostly agree with zargonmaximus. The answers before his are bs.
Note that the D50 and D70 may underperform a bit comming from an F80. The D200 should serve you well. With 10 megapixels, the D200 will also equal or better the image quality and reslolution of 35mm color film. (If you麓re shooting mostly black & white, AND use great lenses, film still has an edge.)
The D200 will take all the lenses you currently use on the F80, but keep in mind that all Nikon digital SLRs have a focal length multiplier of 1.5. This means that your 50mm will perform a a 75mm lens. a 28-80mm zoom becomes 42-120mm. You get the gist. You might end up requiring a new wide angle lens to compensate. Nikon has a couple of new ones that you might like, such as the 12-24 and the 17-55.
Here麓s a side by side comparisson of the D50, D70s and D200. This site also has full reviews of these models (for a review of the D70s, see the D70).
(Full disclosure: I own a D200 myself and love it.)
