They are both on sale for $150 at best buy, which is a better chose? In case you have not seen it yet, here they are side-by-side:

I don't see a whole lot to distinguish these cameras from each other, but the Sony has 7 MP as opposed to the Nikon's 6 MP. This is not a big deal, but it might be a tie-breaker. I like the fact that the Sony offers a spot meter also and the Nikon doesn't.
I'm generally more in favor of Nikon than Sony, butI admit that is more emotional than reasonable. As long as you are not bothered by the slightly higher expense for the one-time purchase of a Sony Memory Stick, I think I'd get the Sony if these were my only two choices. You're welcome and good luck! Report It
The big thing is the Sony will cost twice as much for memory. Get the Nikon, a long established and respected name in digital cameras, and it uses SD memory. Sony's proprietary memory stick is more expensive and works in NOTHING other than sony products. I'm not sure if this is the kind of answer you're looking for, but let me put it this way:
I've used both, Nikon's, and Sony's. I'm no pro, but I'm well above a point and shoot noob, and I would swear by my Cybershot DSC-P100. The software is easier; cleaner even. The outcome - better looking pictures on and off the camera, coupled with the zillion, easy-to-use options available in there.
It may cost you a little more, but a Cybershot is worth it's weight in gold. Nikon's are alright, but the sluggy GUI isn't the most user friendly, and makes you feel like tourist in front of the pyramids, letting you do nothing but click-away, for sub-standard pictures. Don't get me wrong, if you want a digital SLR for a grand or so, I'd pick a Nikon, but for a budget point-and-shoot, Cybershot's are unbeatable. i've had a couple of nikons and was very happy with them. for the 150.00 u want to spend i might recommend checking in a couple of decent pawnshops you can probably find a higher end camera like new! just a thought! good luck The edge has to go to the Nikon. Both cameras seem to have very similar features but one.
Nikon uses a standard SD memory card (used on about 80% of the point and shoot cameras and PDA's and...)and Sony uses a proprietary Memory stick (only works with Sony cameras).
If some new technology comes along and you want to change camera brands, the SD memory card will probably be what the new camera will be using. i go for nikon coolpix |
